Rainbow of colour
Learning level/s: Foundation year
Focus area/s: Food and nutrition
Description: The ‘Rainbow of Colour’ cupcake wrappers show the number and range of fruit and vegetables eaten by the Early Years students over six weeks. The fruits and vegetables are arranged according to the colours of the ‘Eat a Rainbow’ food groups. Other activities included: making paper mache fruits and vegetables; creating charts with different categories of ‘sometimes foods’, ‘anytime food’ and ‘every day food’ charts; a ‘Word Wall’ with descriptive words for food and ‘Our Magic Lunchbox’ artefacts. Prep/1 read a story called the Magic Lunchbox. It only accepted ‘always food’ and spat out the ‘sometimes food’.
Measures of success: The rainbow is completed for our Expo showcase. Children begin to bring a range of coloured fruit and vegetables in their lunchboxes.
