What we do
We are a social enterprise working to build healthier communities by developing health literacy.
Health literacy influences our health, our education, our social supports and even how productive and successful we are in life. How healthy, educated and successful we are in life influences our quality of life, our family’s quality of life and the lives of others in the community around us. Health literacy is an essential asset for a healthy, happy and productive life.
We use a strength-based solution-focused approach with communities and organisations to:
- map their health literacy assets, challenges and preferences
- build their capacity to respond to health literacy needs
- develop the supports needed to strengthen the health literacy skills and abilities of individuals.
Our mission is to deliver health literacy solutions tailored to suit everyone, leaving no child, family or community behind.
Our vision is to lessen health and social inequities for children, families and communities locally and globally.
How we work
We as a social enterprise, profits from the delivery of our programs and services are directed back into the development and delivery of health literacy initiatives. Through these initiatives we aim to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for everyone. We do this by:
- involving people and communities in all activities at all stages to design and develop health literacy solutions
- asserting the value, significance and role of health literacy for society within and across all sectors
- fostering global and local connection across stakeholders to build health literacy capacity across communities
- providing consultation and professional learning for health professionals, teachers, not for profits and government agencies to achieve a unified and cohesive vision for health literacy outcomes
- engaging children, families and communities to better understand and invest in their own health literacy
- exploring opportunities to collaborate with community partners to co-design strategies to support health literacy
- supporting positive health literacy and educational outcomes for young people and their families to reduce health inequities
- supporting health literacy responsiveness and preparedness to cultivate health literacy enabling environments.

Our drivers
Our work is driven by advocacy, collaboration and community.
Advocacy
Disseminate the enablers of improved health and reduced health inequalities through high quality health literacy solutions informed by research and iterative design to inform the ongoing development and implementation of HealthLit4Everyone.
Optimal health literacy practice becomes normal practice and policy.
Recognise that health literacy needs and their appropriate responses vary across individuals, contexts, countries, cultures and time.
Collaboration
In all activities at all stages, relevant stakeholders engage collaboratively to design solutions to develop, organise, and/or provide expertise for social good. Examples may include professional development, action planning, evaluation, seminars, masterclasses, teaching and learning which focus on health literacy and related activities.
A multilevel approach in which the social enterprise’s resources, interventions, evaluation and policy are organised to optimise health literacy.
Community
All activities at all stages prioritise people experiencing adversity and inequity in their access to resources for health and wellbeing.
Participatory assessment of local needs using local data.
Solutions development and implementation are grounded in local experience and expertise.
Supporting global goals
As a social enterprise we focus on making a difference to the social determinants of health. These are the non-medical factors – including health literacy, employment, housing and education – that influence our health and wellbeing. Through our social impact we promote health and wellbeing and improve quality of life.
Our work directly contributes to five of the 18 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals which are a global call to action to end poverty and inequality, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy health, justice and prosperity.
