Learning level/s: Years 5 and 6
Focus area/s: Safety
Description: Students investigated first aid protocols around a number of different environmental risk factors and their own physical activities. They created short video clips about the dangers and the different actions they could take to manage or respond to dangers and risks, with messages about how to stay safe and posters to support video material. Students identified risk environments in which safety should be a consideration. They looked at ways in which to minimise risk in these environments. The videos and posters outlined dangers in such arenas as sports, electrical dangers, cyber bullying or road safety.
Measures of success: Students can assess an environment for dangers and indicate ways to reduce risk of injury/danger. Students recognise the dangers to self and others in a first aid context. Students are informed about making safe decisions that keep people healthy in first aid situations and places such as school, home, on roads, outdoors, near and in water, and personal safety.
