What is physical activity?
Learning level/s: Years 3 and 4
Focus area/s: Health benefits of physical activity, Mental health and wellbeing
Description: Students explored a range of questions about physical activity such as ‘What is physical activity?’ ‘What influences our attitudes towards physical activity?’ And ‘How much physical activity do people really need to stay healthy?’ Students developed diagrams of activity pyramids showing the different types and amounts of physical activities they do in their own lives, identifying which activities they could do more or less of. They also explored the effects of technology on monitoring and/or encouraging activity levels. Students designed and coded wearable ‘microbit’ pedometers that tracked their steps.
Measures of success: Students identify their own levels of physical activity and compare it with healthy standards to modify their own behaviour and understanding.
