Healthy ABCs book
Learning level/s: Foundation year
Focus area/s: Food and nutrition, Health benefits of physical activity, Mental health and wellbeing
Description: Each letter in the alphabet was used to explore health and wellbeing in the creation of the book. This included:
- Mindfulness (Mindful Mind, Mindful Body)
- Healthy Moving, “Let’s Move”
- Healthy Environments
- Healthy Foods, “Fuel for learning”
- Being safe
- Where to go for help.
The creation of the book was combined with in-class discussions about each of the topics and included other activities such as creating ‘mindful stretches’ and sharing them with students in another class, creating a ‘Leave lollies for later’ poster, and nominating five adults or places they can go to if they feel unsure or unsafe.

Measures of success: Students will begin to understand information about their health. Students will know where to go / who to ask for health information (i.e. police for safety, doctor or chemist for physical health, counsellor for mental health, as well as teachers or community members they can seek out to help). Students will understand what information they may need and how to apply these to some age appropriate decisions.
